Tharaka University (TUN) proudly represented Kenya at the 12th Genocide Memorial Taekwondo Tournament (GMT) held from June 28-29, 2025, in Bugesera District, Nyamata Sector, Rwanda. Organized by the Rwanda Taekwondo Federation (RTF), the tournament commemorated the 31st anniversary of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, honoring athletes who were victims of the tragedy.
Led by coach Mr. Douglas Mwiti, TUN’s Taekwondo team competed fiercely among 13 teams, including the Uganda Police Taekwondo Team from the East African Community (EAC), and earned a well-deserved silver medal. Their participation and performance were more than commendable, showcasing exceptional skill and sportsmanship.
Beyond the competition, the teams paid tribute by visiting genocide memorial sites and participating in the Walk to Remember on June 29, embracing a legacy of resilience and remembrance.
