Tharaka University today hosted officials from the Commission for University Education (CUE) for the re-inspection of the University’s Open and Distance e-Learning (ODeL) Centre. Receiving the CUE team on behalf of the Vice Chancellor and CEO, Prof. Peter K. Muriungi, was Prof. Veronicah Nyaga, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic, Research and Student Affairs), who welcomed the officials and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to delivering quality and accessible education through innovative ODeL platforms.
The technical inspection, conducted in line with the Universities Regulations (2014) and the Universities Standards and Guidelines (2014), aimed to rigorously evaluate the Centre’s compliance with regulatory frameworks, focusing on the integration of digital platforms, infrastructure, and resources in supporting academic programme delivery and student engagement.
The assessment featured a comprehensive review of key areas, including governance and sustainability, digital infrastructure and cybersecurity, faculty capacity, student onboarding and support services, academic programme delivery, quality assurance in online education, as well as assessment strategies and digital library accessibility. The day culminated with the Commission sharing the exit report, which highlighted the University’s milestones in advancing ODeL, including the establishment of the high-end ODeL Centre situated in the new University Tech Centre, while also indicating areas for further improvement.
