Tharaka University (TUN) Vice Chancellor and CEO, Prof. Peter K. Muriungi, today led the institution in signing a landmark Memorandum of Collaboration (MoC) with the National Council for Law Reporting (Kenya Law). The officials paid a courtesy call to his office ahead of the signing ceremony, marking the beginning of a strategic partnership that will shape the future of legal education and research at TUN.
The collaborative agreement, signed at TUN, provides a guiding framework for joint initiatives between the two institutions. These initiatives will include the development and dissemination of legal information, support for legal publications, participation in guest lectures, moot court competitions, joint research initiatives, sensitisation of trainee lawyers and paralegals, and resource mobilisation to enhance legal practice and the rule of law. The MoC also envisions joint corporate social responsibility activities, such as equipping law libraries and promoting access to legal knowledge across communities.
Receiving the Kenya Law team alongside Prof. Muriungi was Prof. Collins Miruka, Deputy Vice Chancellor (A, F & P), who witnessed the signing of the MoC. He reaffirmed the University’s commitment to building strong partnerships that will enrich the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) programme and provide students with practical skills and opportunities.
As a gesture of goodwill, the Kenya Law delegation—led by Madam Janet Munywoki, Ag. Editor and CEO of the National Council for Law Reporting (Kenya Law)—brought books to the Tharaka University Law Library. This invaluable contribution will boost the pioneer class of law students and reflect the shared vision of both institutions to strengthen access to legal resources and nurture the next generation of lawyers.
Present during the meeting were National Council for Law Reporting, Madam Emma Kinya, Senior Law Reporter(Advocate) and Madam Emily Nakhungu, Head of Sales, Marketing and Customer Care, TUN, Madam Faith Jappann, Legal Officer, Dr Edward Kathuni, Registrar (A & P), Dr. Mwangi Murithi- Registrar of Academic Affairs, Prof. Mary Karuri, Dean FHSS, Mr. Collins Sitienei – Coordinator, Partnerships and Linkages and Madam Pauline Masaa, University Librarian
