The five-year flagship Government project focuses on strengthening STEM education through investments in infrastructure, equipment, research capacity, and governance systems to prepare universities for future-oriented training and innovation. Following the engagement, Tharaka University is expected to receive support for infrastructure development. According to TUN Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter K. Muriungi, the funding will be used to expand the TUN Science Tuition Block and construct seven new, modern laboratories to enhance practical teaching and research capabilities. In addition, the University is actively exploring complementary pathways to make Open, Distance and e-Learning (ODeL) more workable for STEM courses by investing in modern laboratories and simulation-enabled facilities that can support virtual experiments and remote practical learning. These efforts position TUN to be ready for the first Competency-Based Education (CBE) university cohort in 2029, as the University continues partnering strategically to expand access to quality, future-ready higher education.
