Tharaka University (TUN) Vice Chancellor & CEO, Prof. Peter K. Muriungi, received Prof. Curtis R. Youngs, a Morrill Professor of Animal Science at Iowa State University, USA, who paid a courtesy call to the office of the Vice Chancellor alongside the TUN Chancellor, Prof. Emeritus Ratemo W. Michieka. During the courtesy call, they held discussions on potential areas of collaboration in agriculture, research, smart agriculture, innovation, and capacity building. Prof. Curtis R. Youngs, who also holds the M.E. Ensminger Endowed Chair of International Animal Agriculture, later delivered a special lecture to Master’s students on the topic: ‘Assisted Reproductive Technologies for Sustainable Production of Meat and Milk.’ The session provided valuable insights into the role of advanced reproductive technologies in improving livestock productivity, promoting sustainable meat and milk production, and strengthening food security. Tomorrow afternoon, Prof. Curtis R. Youngs is expected to give a public lecture to students, staff, and community members focusing on the “Role of Animal-Source Foods in a Healthy Balanced Diet for Humans.” Themed at ‘Global Food Security and Sustainable Animal Production.’ The lecture is organized under the directorate of the Center for Smart Agriculture, led by Prof. Levi Musalia, Ph.D. Present were University Council Chair, Prof. Peter N. Keiyoro, Dr. Collins Sitienei, Director of Linkages and Partnerships, Dr. Urbanus Ndolo, Director of Resource Mobilization and University Advancement, and Mr. Dennis Kibungi, Director of Farm, Buildings, and University Enterprises. The visit marked an important step in strengthening academic engagement and knowledge exchange in support of smart and sustainable agriculture as a niche area at TUN.
