Tharaka University Hosts Young Entrepreneurs Business Summit to Advance Innovation

Tharaka University (TUN), in collaboration with Project LIAM Foundation, successfully hosted a dynamic Young Entrepreneurs Business Summit aimed at empowering students with practical entrepreneurial skills and innovation-driven mindsets.

The event was officially opened by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic, Research and Student Affairs), Prof. Veronicah Nyaga, who underscored the University’s commitment to nurturing innovation, creativity, and job creation among the youth.

Dr. Fred Akama, Founder and Director of Project LIAM Foundation, who was the keynote speaker in his address, inspired students on the power of youth-driven innovation and its potential to create meaningful impact in society, encouraging them to embrace entrepreneurship as a pathway to solving real-world challenges.

The summit is a comprehensive five-month incubation programme designed to equip participants with essential entrepreneurial competencies. The programme will offer customized training, mentorship from successful entrepreneurs, coaching sessions, and valuable networking opportunities. Participants will be guided on developing compelling pitch decks and presentation skills, after which their ideas will undergo a review process.

From this process, 20 participants will be selected to take part in a competitive pitching session, where 10 outstanding innovators will receive grants and advance to a six-month acceleration programme focused on investor readiness.

Later in the afternoon, students from various faculties engaged in interactive Q&A sessions centered on career transition opportunities, providing a platform for knowledge exchange, mentorship, and personal development.

The event featured various guests including; Moji short Baba, award winning gospel artist, Timeless Noel, Hype man and TV Personality, Dr. Silas Mwirigi, Chief Principal, Kagumo High School, Mr. Emmanuel S. Nthia; Lecturer, JKUAT, Prof. Mirriam Kinyua, Lecturer, University of Eldoret, Ms. Maryanne Mwai, Assistant Director ICT, KeNHA, as well as TUN teaching and non-teaching staff, student leaders and students.

This initiative reflects TUN’s continued dedication to empowering students with skills that go beyond the classroom, positioning them as future leaders, innovators, and job creators.
