Tharaka University (TUN) today celebrated a proud sporting milestone as trophies and medals won by various teams were officially presented to the Vice Chancellor/CEO, Prof. Peter K. Muriungi, by the University’s Games and Sports Department.
The recognition highlights the remarkable achievements of TUN student–athletes across university, regional, national, and Eastern Africa competitions, an accomplishment that reflects discipline, resilience, teamwork, and unwavering commitment.
Among the standout performances, Men’s and Women’s Volleyball emerged as champions at the Tharaka Boys Open, while Men’s Handball clinched the Meru Open title. Hockey Women were crowned Champions at the CEHOTA Hockey Tournament, further showcasing the University’s competitive edge.
In martial arts, Taekwondo Women secured 1st Runners-Up at the KUSF Central Championship, with Taekwondo Men finishing 3rd place. TUN teams also recorded impressive finishes across disciplines, including Goalball and Sitting Volleyball (1st Runners-Up) at the Eastern Africa Universities PWD Championship, and Pool Men & Women, Soccer Men, and Darts Women (1st Runners-Up) at KUSF competitions. Kho Kho Women and Baseball 5 finished as 2nd Runners-Up in their respective tournaments.
These achievements underscore Tharaka University’s strong investment in sports development and talent nurturing, providing students with opportunities to excel both on and off the field.
