Tharaka University (TUN) rugby teams delivered spirited performances today during the opening day of the Second Season of the Bingwa Fest National Finals held at Meru School Grounds.
Competing against some of the country’s strongest university and community sides, the Team TUN men’s rugby team (BERSERKERS) showcased determination and resilience in a series of intense pool matches.
The BERSERKERS faced Kisii University in a tightly contested encounter that ended 3–0 in favour of Kisii. They later battled MMUST Rugby, putting up a strong fight before narrowly losing 17–10. However, the team bounced back in style, registering an impressive 26–7 victory over Makueni Ravens, demonstrating grit, teamwork, and fighting spirit.
At the close of Day One action, the men’s team secured third position in Pool B and successfully booked a place in the quarterfinals, where they are set to return to action tomorrow in pursuit of a semifinal slot.
Meanwhile, the Tharaka University Women’s Rugby Team faced formidable opponents in their pool fixtures against Jackals Women, Kithimu Community, and **Mwira Community. Despite the challenging encounters, the team displayed courage, discipline, and unwavering commitment throughout the matches, gaining valuable experience on the national stage.
Today’s fixtures formed part of the highly anticipated national championship that has brought together top rugby teams from across the country, turning Meru into a hub of thrilling competition and sporting excellence.
As the tournament progresses, Team TUN remains focused and determined to rise stronger in the upcoming matches, carrying the pride and spirit of Tharaka University onto the national stage.
