TUN PARTNERS WITH ACOPPHE TO CHAMPION ONE HEALTH SOLUTIONS IN ASAL REGIONS

Tharaka University Vice-Chancellor and CEO, Prof. Peter K. Muriungi, PhD, has led the University in signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Africa Community of Planetary Partners for Health and Environment (ACOPPHE) to support the establishment and actualization of the Tharaka University One Health Institute.

The partnership was formalized during a meeting attended by ACOPPHE President Ms. Nightingale Wakigera, accompanied by Mr. Daniel Karoga, the Project Coordinator spearheading One Health-related initiatives.

The collaboration seeks to strengthen research, training, innovation, and community outreach programmes anchored on the One Health approach.

One Health recognizes the close interconnection between human health, animal health, and environmental health, particularly in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs), where human health, livestock production systems, wildlife, food safety, water quality, and environmental change interact in complex ways.

Through the partnership, Tharaka University and ACOPPHE aim to advance sustainable solutions to emerging health and environmental challenges while enhancing the University’s capacity as a centre of excellence in One Health research and practice.

TUN Staff Present during the signing of the MOU included Prof Veronica Nyaga, DVC ARSA, Dr Urbanus Ndolo, Director of Resource Mobilization and University Advancement and Dr Lucy Kinanu, Dean School of Nursing and Health Sciences
