Tharaka University (TUN) in yet another remarkable demonstration of its leadership in higher education innovation and digital transformation, today welcomed a distinguished delegation from the Cooperative University of Kenya for a high-level benchmarking visit focused on the development and implementation of the Self-Paced Module e-Learning Programme. The visit underscored the growing importance of strategic partnerships among institutions of higher learning in advancing excellence, strengthening quality assurance mechanisms, and expanding access to flexible, inclusive, and technology-driven education.
The engagement provided an invaluable opportunity for both institutions to exchange experiences, share best practices, and explore emerging trends in Open, Distance and e-Learning (ODeL), reaffirming their shared commitment to nurturing an educational ecosystem that responds effectively to the evolving needs of learners in the twenty-first century.
The benchmarking session was spearheaded by Mr. Kevin Tuei, Director of Open, Distance and e-Learning (ODeL) at Tharaka University, who provided an overview of the institution’s progress and achievements in digital learning. Participants also benefited from insightful presentations by Mr. Denis Ng’ang’a on the digitalization of learning modules, while Dr. Shadrack Munanu, Dean of Students and Head of the Students’ Welfare Department, highlighted the comprehensive student support systems that contribute to the university’s learner-centred approach.
As part of the programme, the delegation toured several facilities within the university and expressed admiration for Tharaka University’s conducive learning environment, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and unwavering commitment to academic excellence. The team further conveyed its sincere appreciation to the university management, under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter Kinyua Muriungi, for the warm reception, visionary leadership, and steadfast dedication to the transformation of higher education through digital innovation.
