Tharaka University (TUN) has successfully concluded the four-day stakeholder engagement and curriculum development engineering workshop at the Kenya School of Government, Embu Campus, a strategic milestone in advancing the development of industry-responsive engineering curricula that align academic training with professional practice, accreditation requirements, and the evolving needs of the industry.
The workshop brought together University members and consultants who lauded the University Management for charting a transformative path for engineering education, while applauding the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, Finance, Planning and Development, Prof. Collins Miruka, for his leadership in championing industry-led programmes that produce graduates relevant to the engineering profession and the demands of the workplace.
Central to the workshop was the development and refinement of the three engineering curricula, guided by Outcome-Based Education (OBE), Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs), quality assurance and continuous quality improvement (CQI). Particular attention was given to ensuring that the curricula develop graduates with the knowledge, competencies and professional attributes required to contribute meaningfully to industry and society.
The Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) played a critical role in guiding the workshop, particularly in ensuring that the curricula are aligned with engineering education, professional training and accreditation standards. The discussions also considered the expectations of the Commission for University Education (CUE), evaluator guidelines and the professional lifecycle of an engineer, strengthening the University’s preparedness for accreditation and continuous curriculum improvement.
A key highlight was the recognition of Telecommunication Engineering as an important programme for Kenya’s digital transformation, positioning graduates to respond to emerging technologies, support the digital economy and compete within an increasingly interconnected global environment.
