Tharaka University Qualifies Nationals

haraka University’s Football Team delivered an impressive performance over the weekend at the Kenya University Sports Federation (KUSF) Central Conference games held at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) in Nyeri County, successfully securing qualification to the National Finals.
On Saturday, the “Desert Foxes” edged closer to qualification after registering identical 1-0 victories against University of Embu and Karatina University in their opening fixtures. The team displayed resilience, discipline, and tactical sharpness, underscoring Tharaka University’s growing reputation in competitive university sports. Head Coach Mr. Morris Musyoki, an Assistant Lecturer Department of Business Administration, remained optimistic, turning focus to the decisive Sunday fixtures against Kirinyaga University and hosts Dedan Kimathi University of Technology.
On Sunday, the Desert Foxes sealed their spot at the Nationals following determined goalless draws against Kirinyaga University and DeKUT FC. The results saw Tharaka University finish second on the Central Conference log, level on 11 points with the top three teams, narrowly behind Murang’a University of Technology on goal difference, with DeKUT FC clinching the final qualifying slot.
While the Football Team celebrated qualification, it was a challenging outing for the Netball Ladies and Men’s Basketball teams, who fell short of advancing. However, Tharaka University’s Taekwondo team shone brightly, with eight athletes (three male and five female) qualifying to represent the University at the national level.
The weekend’s performance reflects Tharaka University’s sustained commitment to nurturing well-rounded students through academic excellence, talent development, and high-performance sports.
