Tharaka University’s (TUN) Desert Cobras Taekwondo Team spectacularly rose to the occasion at the recently concluded Mombasa County Taekwondo Chairman’s Cup Championship, held at the Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa, delivering a performance worthy of celebration and pride.
Facing a highly competitive field of over 19 teams from across the country, including formidable units from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and Kenya Police, the Desert Cobras showcased exceptional resilience, tactical brilliance, and an unyielding fighting spirit that set them apart throughout the championship.
In a remarkable display of efficiency and determination, despite a smaller squad, the Cobras clinched an impressive 6 medals across Junior and Senior categories: 2 Gold (Junior), 2 Silver (1 Junior & 1 Senior), 2 Bronze (Junior & Senior). Each participant also earned a certificate, affirming their excellence on the national stage.
Their dominance was further reflected in the overall rankings, with the Junior team securing an outstanding 2nd position out of 19 teams, while the Senior team claimed a strong 6th position, underscoring the team’s rising stature and competitive strength.
This stellar achievement is a bold statement of the discipline, commitment, and winning culture being cultivated within the Taekwondo program at Tharaka University.
