It was an exciting and competitive weekend of football. Staff football teams from Tharaka University, University of Embu, and Chuka University met at the Chuka University Pavilion Grounds for a thrilling friendly tournament.
Tharaka University TUN Veterans began the day against the University of Embu. The match was tightly contested and full of determination and grit. TUN, despite leading and dominating the game, narrowly fell out, showcasing the team’s growing strength and fighting spirit.

The second match against the hosts, Chuka University, was when the TUN Veterans truly roared. Although Chuka struck first, TUN responded with authority and dominance, thrashing them 4–1 in a spectacular display of skill, teamwork, and resilience. The goals came from Kevin Sam (Dryland Department), Michael Kimanzi (FPET), Patrick Njagi (Finance Department), and a magnificent free kick by Emmanuel Mugendi (Finance Department), that sealed the statement victory.
By the end of the fixtures, Tharaka University emerged as the Champions of the Day, proving that the team is not just another participant but a serious football force. What some initially thought was “just a team” quickly turned into a lesson in discipline, exposure, and training as TUN showed class and determination on the pitch.
The tournament fostered camaraderie, unity, and stronger relationships among the participating institutions. Through the spirit of healthy competition, the event promoted sportsmanship and mutual respect while offering staff-athletes an opportunity to sharpen their football skills. At the same time, the matches encouraged physical activity and teamwork, contributing positively to both the physical fitness and mental well-being of the participants.
Congratulations to the entire TUN staff football team for flying the university flag high and demonstrating the power of teamwork, preparation, and passion for the game.
