Tharaka University (TUN) is reinforcing its commitment to ethical, credible and high-quality research as the Tharaka University Institutional Scientific Ethics Review Committee (TUN-ISREC) kicks off a four-day Research Ethics Training and Capacity-Building programme in collaboration with the National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI).
The training, running from 10th to 13th August 2026 at the University of Embu (UoEm), brings together trainers from the National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI), Kenya’s regulatory body responsible for overseeing and coordinating research activities in the country. The engagement provides an important platform for TUN-ISREC members to deepen their understanding of research ethics, regulatory requirements and the standards governing ethical research.
Day one programme covered key areas including Introduction to Research Ethics, Ethical Principles in Research, and the Accreditation, Composition and Functions of Institutional Scientific and Ethics Review Committees (ISERCs). Through this capacity-building initiative, TUN-ISREC continues to strengthen institutional compliance, enhance the quality of ethical review processes and ensure that research undertaken at Tharaka University upholds the highest standards of integrity, accountability, participant protection and scientific rigour.
The initiative reaffirms TUN’s commitment to fostering a strong research culture and ensuring that its research is conducted responsibly, ethically and in accordance with national regulatory frameworks and recognised standards.
