Tharaka University Council inaugurated

Tharaka University (TUN) Vice-Chancellor and CEO, Prof. Peter K. Muriungi, today received Dr. Beatrice Muganda Inyangala, Principal Secretary, State Department for Higher Education and Research, who paid a courtesy call to his office ahead of the official inauguration of the newly appointed Tharaka University Council, led by the Council Chair, Prof. Peter Keiyoro.
During the inauguration ceremony, the new Council Members took the Oath of Office and Oath of Secrecy, formally marking the start of their tenure and affirming their commitment to serve the University with diligence and integrity. In his remarks, Prof. Muriungi pledged to work closely with the Council to advance the University’s development agenda, noting that the members bring together diverse expertise and experience from across the country, which will be instrumental in driving TUN’s growth.
Addressing the gathering, the PS commended Tharaka University as one of the fastest-growing universities in Kenya, citing notable milestones achieved within just five years since being chartered in 2022, including infrastructure expansion and steady growth in student enrolment. She urged both the Council and Management to embrace teamwork, uphold integrity, and remain focused on delivering quality higher education. Dr. Inyangala also expressed confidence in the composition of the new Council, describing it as a strong and diverse team capable of steering the University towards achieving its mission.
In his address, Council Chair Prof. Peter Keiyoro assured the University community of the Council’s full support, particularly in strengthening governance and advancing relevant education aligned with the Competency-Based Education (CBE). Later in the day, the Council held its first sitting, during which various Council sub-committees were constituted to oversee key University functions.
