Tharaka University (TUN) Vice-Chancellor and CEO, Prof. Peter K. Muriungi, today received a delegation of opinion leaders from Chiakariga Ward, who paid a courtesy call to his office ahead of discussing the expansion of higher education in the region.
During the engagement, the leaders formally presented their aspirations and lobbied for the establishment of a Tunyai, Tharaka University campus in the Chiakariga–Mariene area. They highlighted the region’s strategic location, the growing number of students seeking university education, and the significant socio-economic benefits that a university campus would bring to the local community, including improved access to higher education, employment opportunities, and accelerated regional development.
Prof. Muriungi welcomed the delegation and commended them for their proactive engagement with the University. He affirmed that Tharaka University values inclusive consultations with community stakeholders and emphasized that the proposal would be subjected to the relevant institutional frameworks and government approval processes. He further reiterated the University’s commitment to expanding access to quality higher education and fostering sustainable regional development.
Present during the meeting were Dr. Faustine Muchui, Director of Quality Assurance; Dr. James Ndwiga, Director of Marketing and Admissions; and Mr. Raphael Kirunguru, Lecturer. The Chiakariga delegation comprised Mr. Kithure Solomon, Chairman, Eng. Kimathi Karong’a, Vice Chairman, Mr. Mathews Kabira, Chief, Tunyai, Mr. Njagi James, Community Mobiliser, and Mr. Nyaga Murugu, Chairman, Tunyai Business Community.
