Tharaka University (TUN) Vice Chancellor/CEO, Prof. Peter K. Muriungi, has today led the University in signing a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Sodzo Kenya, aimed at establishing and operationalizing the Flourishing Communities Model Centre (FCMC) at the University.
The agreement was signed by the Vice Chancellor and CEO, Prof. Peter K. Muriungi, and Christine Gatwiri – Program Manager leading the Flourishing Communities Model Implementation (KPJ) at Sodzo Kenya who represented the Country director, Stanley Gitari and President Sodzo International, Rev. Dr. Michael Goodman, and witnessed by Prof. Mary Karuri, the TUN Dean of the FHSS, alongside Marcella Kagendo (Social Worker), during a courtesy call by officials from Sodzo Kenya at the Vice Chancellor’s Office.

The partnership seeks to position TUN as a center of excellence in community-led development, research, training, and digital innovation. The Flourishing Communities Model Centre will strengthen families and community resilience while promoting participatory research and the use of innovative digital tools to amplify community voices.


The Centre, which will be housed within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, will facilitate training programs, research collaborations, policy dialogues, and student engagement through internships and field placements.
Present during the ceremony were Sodzo Kenya; Lucy Lichoro, Early Childhood Development Education Officer, Julius Kaaria, Accountant, Beth Mwende Mung’athia, Business development officer TUN; Dr. Fidelis Ngugi – Dean FPET, Dr. Collins Sitienei (Director, Linkages and Partnerships), Dr. Linus Mugendi, HOD Social Sciences, and Dr. Muembu Kimathi, CoD Humanities.
This collaboration underscores Tharaka University’s commitment to community empowerment, applied research, and sustainable development within Tharaka Nithi County and beyond.
