Tharaka University (TUN) has successfully concluded a two-day hands-on training on Fiber Optic Communication and Structured Cabling, facilitated by experts from MegaTech Solutions. The practical training brought together second-year students pursuing Computing and ICT-related programmes who are currently undertaking their internal attachment, a key component of the University’s curriculum that runs from May to August and provides students with practical exposure in various computing domains.
Organized by the Department of Computer Science and ICT and led by the Chair of the Department, Dr. Ismael M. Kwenga, the training equipped students with hands-on skills in fiber-optic networking, structured cabling, telecommunications systems, and internet infrastructure. Dr. Kwenga noted that the programme is designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and industry practice, enabling students to confidently handle fiber optic technologies while preparing them for real-world networking projects.
He added that the University expects the training to produce graduates capable of supporting ICT infrastructure projects within the institution and competing effectively in the job market. He further observed that following the success of previous practical trainings, including robotics, students have continued to express enthusiasm for more industry-based learning opportunities.
This initiative is part of Tharaka University’s commitment to strengthen experiential learning through strategic industry partnerships that prepare graduates for the rapidly evolving Information and Communication Technology sector.
The MegaTech Solutions team, led by Mr. Evans Omondi and Mr. Brian Oketch, commended Tharaka University for prioritizing practical, industry-oriented training, noting that such collaborations are instrumental in producing technically competent graduates equipped to meet the demands of today’s digital economy.
