TUN 530KM Charity Walk Reaches Nyeri as Support for Endowment Fund Grows

The Tharaka University (TUN) 530KM Endowment Fund Charity Walk, targeting to raise KSh. 50 million to support bright but financially vulnerable students, entered its seventh day yesterday, with Charity Walk Ambassador Mr. Isaack Gacugo arriving in Nyeri County.

Gacugo, accompanied by TUN officials and students, paid a courtesy call to the Office of the Governor of Nyeri County, where the delegation was received by County Secretary Mr. Edward Irungu on behalf of H.E. Governor Dr. Mwalimu Mutahi Kahiga.

Mr. Irungu commended Gacugo for his remarkable strength, determination and commitment to the fundraising mission. He also applauded Tharaka University for championing the initiative, noting the importance of supporting students facing financial challenges and expanding access to higher education.

The visit also provided an opportunity for TUN and Nyeri County to explore areas of mutual collaboration and partnership, with both sides expressing interest in strengthening their relationship and pursuing areas of shared interest.

The reception was attended by CECM for Health Dr. J.M. Kiragu, CECM Peter Macharia, Chief Officer for Gender Joe Gethi, and Director of Youth Affairs and Sports Peter Theuri, whose presence demonstrated growing support for the Endowment Fund initiative.

TUN was represented by a delegation led by Dr. Urbanus Ndolo, Director of Resource Mobilization and University Advancement, alongside Dr. James Ndwiga, Director of Admissions and Marketing, Dr. Collins Sitienei, Director of Linkages and Partnerships, Mr. Dennis Kibungi, Director of Farm, Buildings and University Enterprises, Ms. Edita Njue, Council Member and students. Students from Nyeri National Polytechnic also joined the delegation in solidarity.

A memorable moment during the visit was Gacugo’s stop at the famous Truphena Tree, where County Secretary Irungu described the moment as an opportunity to draw inspiration and renewed strength for the journey ahead.

As the walk continues, Gacugo’s determination remains a powerful symbol of the collective effort to raise KSh. 50 million and create greater opportunities for students in need.
