Tharaka University (TUN) is among the institutions participating in the ongoing Science, Technology, Research & Innovation for Society (Stri4society) Week 2026, currently taking place at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC). The national event has brought together researchers, innovators, institutions, and industry players from across the country to showcase groundbreaking innovations aimed at solving societal challenges through science, technology, research, and innovation. This year’s theme, “Igniting Innovation: Bridging Science and Society for Sustainable Development,” underscores the role of innovation in driving national transformation.
At the exhibition, TUN is proudly showcasing several innovations developed by both students and staff, demonstrating the University’s growing contribution to research and innovation in Kenya. The University’s exhibition booth attracted significant attention earlier today when it hosted Prof. Shaukat Abdulrazak, Principal Secretary, State Department for Science, Technology and Innovation, who toured the stand and interacted with the innovators.
During the visit, the Principal Secretary was taken through several innovative projects, including the Agriloop Project on biodegradable hydrogels developed by Clinton Odhiambo, a student at TUN. The delegation was also introduced to the Mango Seed Biomass innovation by student innovator Brian Idd Mwiti, as well as the Biosafe Organic Herbicide project developed by members of staff Dr. Alex Muthengi and Mr. Silas Njiru. The innovations highlighted the University’s commitment to providing practical and sustainable solutions to environmental, agricultural, and societal challenges through research and creativity.
The TUN team is accompanied by Dr. Fidelis Ngugi, Dean of the Faculty of Physical Sciences, Engineering and Technology. The University’s participation in the exhibition continues to position it as an emerging hub for innovation, research excellence, and technological advancement in Kenya.
Members of the public, partners, researchers, students, and stakeholders attending the exhibition are encouraged to visit the Tharaka University booth at the KICC to interact with the innovators, learn more about the showcased projects, and explore opportunities for collaboration, research, and innovation.
