Tharaka University (TUN) has strengthened its national profile in legal education after its School of Law featured on Radio Jambo’s Mazungumzo Wazi Wazi programme as part of the ongoing “Advancing Access to Justice and Legal Education in Kenya Campaign.”
The national campaign is spearheaded by the Council of Legal Education (CLE) in collaboration with Radio Africa Group to highlight the role of legal education institutions in promoting access to justice, legal awareness, and quality legal training across the country. The initiative gives accredited law schools a national platform to showcase their programmes, innovations, student achievements, research, and contributions to advancing legal education and expanding access to justice in Kenya.
Representing Tharaka University was Dr. Charles Mwirigi Keega, Chair of the Department of Jurisprudence and Legal Theory and Lecturer in the School of Law, who shared insights into the University’s rapidly growing School of Law. During the interview, he highlighted the School’s academic programmes, its distinctive focus on Environmental Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), practical legal training, research initiatives, student achievements, and its commitment to producing ethical, competent, and socially responsible legal professionals.
Dr. Mwirigi further underscored Tharaka University’s contribution to advancing access to justice through legal education, community engagement, legal awareness initiatives, and the nurturing of graduates equipped to address contemporary legal and societal challenges. He also highlighted the University’s vision of making quality legal education accessible while preparing graduates to serve with professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to justice.
The programme also featured Prof. Busalile Jack Mwimali, Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Council of Legal Education (CLE), who led an informative discussion on the Council’s mandate of regulating, licensing, and supervising legal education providers in Kenya. He highlighted the ongoing efforts by the Council to strengthen legal education and training, uphold professional standards, and ensure quality legal education across the country. Prof. Mwimali also noted that Tharaka University’s School of Law is duly licensed by the Council of Legal Education, affirming the University’s compliance with the rigorous standards required to offer legal education in Kenya. The recognition underscores Tharaka University’s commitment to delivering quality legal training and producing graduates equipped to serve the justice sector with integrity and professionalism.
The interview formed part of a broader national conversation aimed at increasing public awareness of legal education, promoting access to justice, and showcasing institutions that are shaping the future of Kenya’s legal profession.
