TUN HOSTS MILLERSVILLE UNIVERSITY DELEGATION FOR ACADEMIC AND CULTURAL EXCHANGE VISIT

Tharaka University today warmly hosted a delegation of students and lecturers from Millersville University, USA, who have begun a five-day academic and cultural exchange visit aimed at fostering international collaboration, cultural understanding, and global learning experiences.

The delegation was received in Nairobi yesterday by Dr. Urbanus Ndolo, Director, Resource Mobilization and University Advancement, Dr. Collins Sitienei, Director, Partnerships and Linkages and Dr. Lucy Kinanu, Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences, on behalf of the University before proceeding to Tharaka University for a series of engaging activities.

Upon arrival in Tharaka, the guests visited the vibrant Marimanti Open-Air Market, where they experienced the local trading environment and interacted with members of the community. They were later in the evening treated to a welcome dinner hosted by the University and received by Prof. Veronicah Nyaga, DVC, ARSA, on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Daniel Mwangi- Registrar, Academic Affairs, and other members of the University staff, who warmly welcomed them and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to international collaboration and cultural exchange.

As part of their first day’s programme, the visitors participated in an interactive session on Tharaka culture and traditions, facilitated by Dr. Patrick Kanampiu – Lecturer, English and Linguistics. The session offered valuable insights into the rich heritage, customs, and way of life of the Tharaka people, providing the guests with a deeper appreciation of the local community. The delegation also toured the University farm, where they interacted with various livestock, including camels, cows, and goats, while learning about the University’s agricultural initiatives.

In a remarkable show of compassion and community engagement, the visitors later toured Karethani Special School for the Mentally Handicapped. During the visit, they interacted with the learners, explored the school’s programmes, and admired the impressive creative works produced by the students, including woven mats and crochet items. The delegation also shared gifts with the children, bringing smiles and creating memorable moments of connection and friendship.

The visit continues to provide meaningful opportunities for academic exchange, cultural immersion, and community impact, further strengthening the growing partnership between Tharaka University and Millersville University.
