Tharaka University (TUN) Vice-Chancellor and CEO, Prof. Peter K. Muriungi, Ph.D, hosted Prof. Dan Kulmala, a Scholar and Researcher from Millersville University, USA, who paid a courtesy call to his office ahead of a public lecture on Internationalization.
The Vice Chancellor was afterwards joined in the boardroom by Deans from all Faculties for a high-level engagement aimed at strengthening academic and institutional partnership between the two universities.
The meeting explored a range of collaborative opportunities designed to enhance teaching, research, innovation, and global exposure for students and staff.
Key areas of discussion included the implementation of the 1+2+1 pathway action plan (where the student gets a chance to study one year in TUN and 2 years in Millersville University and a final year back at Tharaka University) across faculties, potential funding models for Kenyan student cohorts, faculty support initiatives, student and staff exchange programmes, as well as collaborative research and joint consultancy opportunities.
In the afternoon, Prof. Kulmala engaged students and staff members of Tharaka University in an engaging public lecture titled; Internationalization: Kenya as a Critical Hub for global Learning Networks and Advancement of Education, where the students got an opportunity to engage with the Professor on the 1+2+1 model earning them a dual degree from both universities.
During the engagement the VC promised to sponsor two students to kickstart the program.
The engagement marks a significant step in Tharaka University’s commitment to internationalization and the creation of meaningful global partnerships that expand opportunities for its academic community.
As a symbol of friendship, sustainability, and the growing partnership between the two institutions, Prof. Kulmala also planted a commemorative tree at the university, leaving a lasting mark of this important visit.
The discussions reaffirmed the shared commitment of Tharaka University and Millersville University to fostering academic excellence, cross-cultural exchange, and innovative collaborations that will benefit students, faculty, and the wider community for years to come.
