Tharaka University (TUN) Vice-Chancellor and CEO, Prof. Peter K. Muriungi, Ph.D, hosted Prof. dr. Inge Brinkman, Professor of African Studies at Ghent University, Belgium, who paid a courtesy call to his office ahead of a public lecture on Research Grant Writing.
While officially opening the lecture, Prof. Muriungi emphasized the critical role of research, innovation, and international academic collaborations in advancing the University’s strategic objectives and strengthening its research capacity.
In her presentation, Prof. dr. Inge Brinkman highlighted the close relationship between research and grant writing, demonstrating how well-conceptualized and impactful research proposals can attract funding opportunities. The lecture, which targeted researchers and postgraduate students at TUN, provided practical insights and skills for developing competitive grant applications and securing research funding.
Later in the day, representatives from TUN and Ghent University held discussions on the establishment of a research partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), a process that is currently underway.
Also present during the engagement were Dr. Collins Sitienei, Director of Linkages and Partnerships; Dr. Urbanus Ndolo, Director of Resource Mobilization and University Advancement; Dr. Ambrose Vengi, Director of Postgraduate Studies; Dr. Alex Muthengi, Director of Research, Extension and Publications; Dr. Kimathi Mwembu, Chair of the Department of Humanities; Dr. James Wachira from the Department of Humanities, Literature Section; as well as members of staff and students.
This engagement marks a significant milestone in strengthening international research collaboration, academic exchange, and capacity building between Tharaka University and Ghent University, paving the way for future joint research initiatives and scholarly partnerships.
