5th Annual Career Innovation and Entrepreneurship Week

Tharaka University has successfully concluded its three-day 5th Annual Career Innovation and Entrepreneurship Week aimed at nurturing creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurial skills among students.
Speaking during the closing session, the Vice Chancellor and CEO Prof. Peter K. Muriungi, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to producing innovators who contribute meaningful solutions to community challenges. He emphasized that higher education institutions have a key role in equipping learners with practical skills that drive social and economic transformation.
During the final day of the event, Ms. Lorna Juma, Academy Program Manager for Africa Oracle, challenged students to embrace technology as a powerful tool for solving real-world problems affecting society. She encouraged learners to develop digital skills and innovative ideas that can address emerging challenges in communities.
She noted that countries that grow the fastest are those that invest heavily on technology.
Eric Njoka who was representing the Permanent Secretary in the State Department for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy said the department has been in the forefront of creating new and meaningful platforms and systems to help advance youth affairs.
He underscored the importance of marring education and technology to help further the current competency based Curriculum.
David Ndegwa of Tharaka University emerged the winner in the ICT and EDTECH category with the Legacy Net innovation, while Dennis Ng’ang’a, a staff member at Tharaka University floored his compatriots with his Mwalimu Track innovation.
Kwamboka Wilkister of Meru University carried the honors in the Engineering category with her Smart Automatic Flushing Toilet with inclusive design project with Pamela Opuko of Chuka University finishing first in the Health category, after she presented a project of making Safe Sanitary Pads from Banana Fibres.
Brian Iddi Mwiti’s Mango Seed Biomass project won in the Climate and Environment Category with Clinton Odhiambo emerging victorious in the Agritech category with his Agriloop innovation. Geoffrey Karanja Maina took the plaudits in the creative, social entrepreneurship & tourism category.
Also in attendance were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Veronicah Nyaga, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic, Research and Student Affairs), Dr. Alex Muthengi, Director of Research Extension and Publication, Dr. Edward Kathuni, Registrar (A&P), Dr. Daniel Mwangi, Registrar (Academic Affairs) Deans, Directors, CoDs, HoDs,
students, staff, and community members.
