Tharaka University (TUN), in partnership with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), successfully hosted a vibrant one-day seminar aimed at advancing taxation awareness and financial literacy through practical learning and community empowerment. The impactful seminar brought together students, lecturers, and community members for an engaging session on taxation, compliance, and responsible financial citizenship.
Participants were taken through key areas including the fundamentals of taxation, taxes affecting individuals and businesses, taxpayer rights and incentives, tax exemptions, and the importance of voluntary tax compliance. The seminar further empowered attendees to become tax ambassadors capable of promoting a strong culture of accountability and compliance within society.
The facilitators also guided participants through practical tax-filing procedures, available filing options, and emerging challenges commonly encountered during tax return filing. Interactive discussions and Q&A sessions enriched the training by providing hands-on experience and practical insights into real-world tax processes.
The KRA officials were led by Mr. Brown Kitheka, Principal Officer from the Micro and Small Taxpayers Department, alongside Ms. Lucy Kavuia from Civic Education and Tax Outreach, Mr. Erick Kamau from the Micro and Small Taxpayers Department, and Mr. Kevin Thuo from Customer Experience.
TUN Members of staff present included Mr. Sammy Murige, Section Head, Accounting & Finance, Ms. Fridah Makena, Mr. Karinga Kahindi, Ms. Jael Jerop and Mr. Jamlick Muriithi.
